The title names a spiritual inversion: a Christ we can worship while avoiding the path Jesus taught. It is not an attack on Jesus or Christians. Modern Jesus asks what it would mean for devotion to become a way of life.
Christian devotion and prayer, a year with the Franciscans, yoga, and years of searching shaped this question. My present practice is rooted in the Thai Forest tradition, which gives me a way to examine whether spiritual experience leads to lasting change in how we live with others.
